Description

In der Forschungslandschaft zur kantischen Philosophie lassen sich nur noch wenige Flächen ausmachen, die wenig bearbeitet sind. Hierzu gehört die "Tafel der Kategorien der Freiheit in Ansehung der Begriffe des Guten und des Bösen" am Ende des "Zweiten Hauptstückes" der Kritik der praktischen Vernunft. Kants Versicherung, dass diese Tafel "für sich verständlich genug" und "nichts weiter zur Erläuterung hinzuzufügen" sei, hat bei etlichen Interpreten schon früh für Irritation und Ratlosigkeit gesorgt. Schon unter Kants Zeitgenossen gingen die Meinungen deutlich auseinander. Im gesamten Neukantianismus, der sein Augenmerk vornehmlich auf die theoretische Philosophie gelegt hat und an einer erkenntnistheoretischen Grundlegung der modernen Naturwissenschaften interessiert war, blieb es übergangen. Erst in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts sind wieder einige Versuche unternommen worden, sich darauf einzulassen. Seit den 1980er Jahren nimmt die Häufigkeit von Arbeiten zu, die sich damit wenigstens in Aufsatzumfang befassen. Die Tagung will diese Debatte weiter vorantreiben und dazu gewichtige Stimmen von einschlägig ausgewiesenen und mitunter international renommierten Kennern des Themas und der kantischen Philosophie überhaupt versammeln.

The MultiRights project in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Mind in Nature, the Norwegian Association for Legal Philosophy and the Norwegian Kant Society is organizing a workshop on Kantian Theory and International Human Rights Courts on August 27, and a graduate conference on August 28 at the University of Oslo. Paper proposals for the graduate conference may be submitted before May 18.

Description

The conference Kantian ethics and moral life aims at bringing together influential authors and young Kant scholars, permitting the participants to engage into a debate concerning the various facets of Kant's views on how human beings can lead a moral life and on what features are necessary and distinctive for leading a moral life. It welcomes exegetical papers on topics related to Kant's account of moral life as well as papers that present a Kantian approach to specific problems in (applied) ethics. Papers are also invited to question and challenge Kant's thought for its present-day relevance. Over the last decades, the new, more balanced Kantian approach has taken root in various fields of applied ethics, such as animal ethics, human rights and international solidarity, medical ethics and business ethics. The conference welcomes contributions from moral philosophers who have been inspired by recent Kantian thinking to reflect on urgent issues such as our duties towards (farm) animals, our duties towards (far away) strangers, the nature of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the moral status of the corporation.
